I have been asked to address the following questions:
- How does the report use data?
- How does it use specific contexts, terms, and figures?
- How does the overall look of the presentation appeal to readers?
- How does the report meet or not meet its objective?
- How does the report use the date?
Based on what I can see, the report primarily uses the data to compare itself to other relevant metrics. The first report compares what looks like sale growth to similar company and also the S&P report. The second report shows how their net earrings have changed from what was reported to the adjusted value. Figure three and four show the growth of sales per product and per region over a ten year period. Finally, the last figure compares returns for stockholders compared to the S&P average return.
2. How does it use specific contexts, terms, and figure?
It looks like they constantly are using the S&P reports to show how well they are doing compared to the “average” of the market. I believe they use this to show how well they are doing compared to the average industry performance and it makes it a point to have those metrics on the same graph to really show how the stark comparison. It uses a lot of linear and bar graphs to make the comparison very clear to see.
3. How does the overall look of the presentation appeal to the reader?
The overall look appeals to the idea that the company that the reader has invested their money is doing really well. The presentation is also very clean and they have divided up the information into enough graphs so that none of them are very cluttered and difficult for the reader to understand. The graphs also have very clearly labeled titles making it easy for the reader to follow what the graph is conveying.
4. How does the report meet or not meet its objective?
I think this report and its graph meet the objective. They were able to show to the reader how they have been doing sales wise over the past ten years and compared to the industry as well as show how the investor’s stock has been increasing in value and the returns in comparison to the industry. Since a highlight report is generally a report that looks at the positive things about a company, I would say that its objective was meet.
